christmas with toddlers

This has been, by far, my favorite Christmas ever.

This year was the first that our children were actually able to open and enjoy their Christmas gifts and somewhat understand the reason why we celebrate. We were able to share the Christmas story with Josiah and Chia, and cram into their heads everything they needed to know about Baby Jesus, Christmas carols, the Advent Calendar (or as Lucia called it, "JESUS CANDY!"), presents and stockings, snow, and tons of cookies!

They also learned about Santa... and they were told that he is indeed a fake person.

But, let me explain! We had to spill the beans out of Josiah's fear and misconception of jolly ol' Saint Nick. Somehow, he managed to get Santa confused with the Grinch, and thought that Santa was mean to kids, destroyed Christmas trees and presents, and hated Christmas carols.  No matter how much we tried to distinguish the two, Josiah didn't buy it. So, don't blame us. Blame Dr. Seuss.

Any-who, this Christmas was chock full of amazing memories made with our children and extended families. The kids were, as always, spoiled by their grandparents with some pretty awesome presents. We shared delicious meals with our parents and siblings, and enjoyed some real quality time together. We started traditions that we'll get to experience for many years as a family. Joseph was blessed with a huge bonus from his work, and we have been able to end 2012 with some pretty full hearts.

We're super excited for what 2013 holds for our family!

  1. Sounds like a lovely Christmas. I can't wait till Evie is old enough to do cute things like "Jesus Candy" and confusing Santa and the Grinch. Did one of them face-plant in the snow? Love it.

    1. Oh, Josiah voluntarily face-planted in the snow. He was pretending he was a dog so he could eat it. Hah!

  2. It looks like you guys had a great time celebrating together. I can't wait until my kiddo is this age too :) Happy New Year!

  3. They are adorable! Christmas is extra special when the kids start to understand what's going on and can participate in traditions! Glad you had a fabulous Christmas.

  4. I love that there are dinos in with the nativity set. It is so adorable what kids come up with. I mean...maybe there WERE dinosaurs at the birth of Christ. No one REALLY knows, right? :) Looks like you captured every wonderful second! Happy 2013!
