Happy Monday, everyone! I'm excited to share another lovely handmade boutique owned and operated by a creative mama who uses her talents to make some adorable handmade pretties!
Meet Beth, owner of WeePereas! Beth's shop specializes in lots of baby and children-related goodness, from baby shoes to quilts to bibs! She's even planning to add some more fun items to the store in the very near future, such as a toddler backpacks, leather baby shoes, and a wider variety of organic quilts. The patterns, color combinations, and fabrics she uses on her products are absolutely adorable and extremely unique. Just see for yourself:
I even have some WeePereas baby shoes waiting patiently for some fresh baby feet in Lucia's nursery:
I had the opportunity to interview Beth and find out more her handmade business journey:
Give us a summary of what you sell in your handmade shop:
I make modern handmade children items. I love making baby shoes, and also offer baby blankets and I am adding organic quilts to my shop. I offer items that will great addition to your little one's wardrobe and nursery.
How did you come up with the name of your shop?
My shop name, Weepereas is derived from my last name (Perea), and having two wee ones. Many people have told me they believe that a 'weeperea' was some kind of bird!
What inspired you to start selling your products online?
In 2008, after my second son was born I wanted to create unique baby accessories for him. As a stay at home mom, my desire to connect with others and create each day was essential to me to find some sort of outlet to still express myself. I became hooked once I started drafting my baby shoes pattern, and saw how much my little one loved wearing the shoes, and with how very practical they are. After receiving many praises from my friends, I opened up my Etsy shop.
What makes your products stand out amongst the rest?
I know there is a lot of handmade shops out there, so I am always trying to add new fresh items, listen to what my customers are requesting and offer great customer service.
How much time a week do you spend on your business?
My shop is my job. I spend most of my day working on new items and filling orders. It hard for me to really walk away, because they are so many things I want to make! But I try to remind myself that it is so nice to eat dinner as a family, and little things like bath time with my wee ones help me to reconnect with my family and slow down.
What first made you want to become an artist?
While I have never thought of myself as an artist, I have always been consumed with the need to create. My first experience with sewing was in elementary school, handstitching leftover quilt fabric scraps as clothes for my Barbie's from my Grandmother's church quilting bee. I believe my desire to create unique items started then!
What inspires you to be creative?
I become inspired each and every day by the amazing handmade community, lovely other crafters out there, and most importantly my family and faith. I believe my family and faith are the foundation, and with that belief all things are possible.
Aside from your shop, what other creative things interest you?
I love making quilts, little softies for my children and some home decor items such as pillows.
What advice do you have for other online shop owners out there?
Find your niche, something that you love doing enough that you will do it a million times. Because at the end of the day, it has to be passion and enjoyment that drives you to continue. I also believe you need great support from your friends and family, and need to allow yourself some down time. It is always good to step back and focus on where you want your shop headed, and make necessary changes.
Let's get personal: where do you see yourself in ten years?
Let's see, I would love to be sewing along in my studio in our own home with a garden and maybe even some chickens in the back surrounded by the family and friends I care so deeply for.
What's something interesting about you that others should know?
I am a wildly optimistic person and try to maintain a positive outlook every day, and try to appreciate the small things in life. Like sunshine, spending time with loved ones and cupcakes.
