Josiah The Gnome

I didn't think my baby could get any cuter.
Until I put a beard on his face.

Could this costume be any more ridiculous?
We have been laughing our heads off all day.

Saturday afternoon, I tried on Josiah's cow costume only to find that he was too tall for it.  How did that happen in like 2 weeks? There was no way he would be able to wear it for Halloween. I didn't want to look like a neglectful parent making him wear something that was too small on him.  So, we spent our entire Saturday evening trying to find something that would work.  And we did. Except, I am wondering if people still found me abusive for making him wear this. Poor thing. Hah!

Please do not report us after watching this video.
We have way too much fun with this poor child.

Favorite Things Friday: Maternity Fashion

It's so much easier to just put on some sweats and frump around with my belly hanging out for the next 7 months. That's pretty much what I did last time. But, let's face it. Pajamas only look cute on this:

I promised myself that I would try a little harder with the next one, and attempt to look more presentable when in public. Hmm... maybe even put on some makeup? Eh, too much work.  Maybe brush my hair? That's a good start.

Well, here are some of my favorite fashion items that I hope will inspire me to dress up more this fall and winter, no matter how comfortable that sweatshirt looks.  It's hard to find cute maternity clothes. So, I'm going to try and dress up basic shirts and blouses with lots of cute accessories:

Picture that big ol' flower above a baby bump. Cute!
Some cute pendant necklaces to dress up a simple shirt.
Oh, and here's that simple shirt.
A really dressy bib necklace that will make a statement, and help guide everyone's attention away from my bloated belly.

Peasant shirts are going to be my friend this year.
I just really liked this necklace.
I wore slippers to work this week, and the little girl I nanny told me I shouldn't have left my house wearing those. I love her honesty. I will try and wear cute shoes from now on. Even if my feet are swollen.
Tunics and a belt! Genius idea for dressing up my belly and not looking like I am forty.

What are some ideas and tips you have for looking good in public when you really just want to hide under a blanket all day?

spare 2 clicks for us, today? thanks!

My Very Materialistic Wish List

I've already started a very "materialistic" wish list folder in my browser for the new baby. I can't help it!

Baby Gear:
Because this would look really good with my sweatpants.
We have the Baby Bjorn and my back hurts after every time we use it. I hear this one is supposed to help with that problem. Someone buy it for me, please?! I tend to have big babies.
Time to start looking for a twin stroller! I would never buy this full price, but I will be scouting out Craigslist for the next 7 months to find one. Fingers crossed.

If it's a boy (or for Josiah!):
A sneaky rabbit? I love it.
I miss my old cassettes.
I'll take two of those, please. And the baby.
I would wear that shirt.

If it's a girl (please, please, please, please...):
My baby will always have a hair accessory strapped to her head.
I can't get over the fabric used on this one. Too cute!
Honey, is that a mushroom in your hair? <3
The most stylish drool bib I've ever seen.

Um, and more...

Heather Bailey print burp cloths? Yes, please.
I love polkadots.
I love polkadots. And cloth diapers.

I really want a girl, okay?

Gender Neutral:
I wonder what it tastes like.
I think that cutie needs a friend named Josiah.
This would be in our living room.
My kids will love bugs.

I do not expect to ever own these items. I just wanted to make you drool over them as much as I did.

Baby Halloween Costumes

We have a cow costume for Josiah to wear on Halloween. My mom gave it to us, and it is pretty cute on him.  But, if I actually had money to waste on a costume, these are what I would dress him up as:

Lil Characters Infant Elephant Costume, Dark Grey/Light Grey, 18-24 MonthsUnique Infant Baby Caterpillar Costume, 12 Months

Unique Infant Toddler Baby Porcupine Animal Costume (24 Months)Baby Little Trees Costume Bunting

Toddler Garden Gnome Costume - 12-18 monthsWoopie Cushion Baby Bunting Infant Halloween Costume (Infant (3-9 Months))

Oh, and a friend suggested this one:

A Day Off With My Babe

I love when I get to spend an entire day at home with this:

He is becoming such a "talker." I have no clue what he is saying, but I do know that it must be pretty important:

Oh, and did you notice his two bottom teeth? I guess they're pretty hard to miss...

Vote for that double chin and drool...

Etsy Contest - Knitty Bitties

Surprise! Another contest. You guys, my blog has been jam-packed with Etsy giveaway goodies these past couple of weeks! I love giving beautiful stuff away and sharing my love for handmade.  And, I bet these giveaways are helping give you great ideas for Christmas presents this year, aren't they?

This next Etsy shop sharing with you today is definitely one of my favorites! I've promoted her stuff several times on the blog, but am so excited to share the creator behind the shop today.  I also can't wait to show off my favorite purchased items from this cute shop, Knitty Bitties, and give you a chance to have some of your own Knitty Bitties goodness!

I would like to introduce you all to the lovely Andrea Taddicken, creator of Knitty Bitties, an adorable Etsy shop filled with some of the most adorable ruffled accessories I've seen online.  Her color and fabric combinations are going to blow you away. Seriously, I fell in love with this shop when I first laid eyes on it, and had to have some ruffled goodies for myself right away!

So, here are my personal Knitty Bitties that I use on a daily basis:

My "List Taker" is what I use to jot down everything I need to remember, whether it's blog stuff, personal to-dos, or a grocery list for the week.  I love how there are pockets to keep my receipts, and even a slot for my pen! So genius and so adorable!

This is my lovely new wallet.  It's small, but holds everything I need.  There's even a spot for my loose cash, and it fits really nice in my back pocket.  I get compliments from strangers every day when I whip this cute thing out!

Okay, back to Andrea and her lovely shop. I was able to interview her and find out more about her life as a business owner and the inside scoop behind Knitty Bitties:

So, give us a summary of your store and the handmade products you sell: My store is filled with a whole lot of happy. Each fabric is hand picked, cut and sewn by me to create something I love and think would brighten someone else's world too. There is a little bit of everything for babies on up to mamas.

What inspired you to start selling your products on Etsy, and how long have you had your shop? It all started with an adorable apron I sewed for my best friend over 3 years ago. My passion for sewing grew, as did the amount of 'gifts' I was sewing up. I started getting requests for handmade items and Etsy was a perfect fit. I started my shop, Knitty Bitties, a few months after I sewed that first apron.

What makes your product(s) stand out amongst the rest? I'd like to think it's my attention to quality and detail as well as an incredible value in a handmade item. I'm sure I undersell myself at times, but I try to make something that will fit every budget and while I might not gain as much financially, I think the experience and quality will bring customers back.

How much time a week do you spend on your business? Is this your job or just a hobby? As my one and only headed off to 1st grade this year, my 'business hours' suddenly multiplied. I'm still adjusting to my new schedule, but on average I'd say I spend 3-4 hours per day on the business. I still consider being a wife and mom my first job, but this is definitely more than a hobby :).

What first made you want to become an artist? I've always loved to create. Fresh crayons, coloring in the lines, poster paints in the living room (think a big ORANGE mess ... sorry Mom!) ... it followed me all through school and into college where I graduated with a BA in Graphic Design.

How did you decide to get into your craft? Well I kind of stumbled upon it. I've known the basics of sewing since my days of home ec. and watching/learning from my mom. But it wasn't until I made that apron (it sounds magical, doesn't it?) that I really loved creating something from fabric. My favorite thing about sewing is the almost instant gratification you can get by starting and finishing a project in a day.

What inspires you to be creative? Everything. Is that a cliché answer? It's true though ... color is all around us, print design come through our mailboxes and inboxes, blogs are filled with pictures, tutorials and inspiration ... really it's everywhere.

Aside from your Etsy shop, what other creative things interest you? In college I did a lot of watercolor painting which I loved, but sadly didn't continue. I hope to return to it someday. Designing my blogs (personal & business) is a great creative challenge. I used to scrapbook, a lot, before sewing took over. I still do it occasionally, but mostly I stick with making cards. I love the challenge of baking (is that creative?) and because of my love of baking have had to take up running ;).

What advice do you have for other Etsy sellers? I'd say if what you do is more of a hobby than a business, Etsy could be discouraging to you. It may take you a long time to get that first sale. Persistence is KEY and you have to be willing to invest a fair amount of time to make Etsy work for you. It's so much more than just listing your items and waiting.

What is your favorite product you've purchased from another Etsy seller? Oh that's tough. I'm on a necklace kick and you can see the post I did all about my favorite ones from Etsy here:

Let's get personal: where do you see yourself in ten years? I'd love to have another child. This is something we've 'worked' on for almost six years. I'd be happy to be doing exactly what I am today. Really, I love my life and am blessed beyond measure. If I can feel the same way I do now in 10 years, that will be a wonderful gift.

What is something really interesting about you that others should know? I love, love, love iced tea. Specifically Starbucks black iced tea. I drink it every single day. Now you can imagine that this would get expensive (uhm, yes ... really I should have told you that my Etsy shop pays for my husband and I's monthly Starbucks bill) so thank goodness Cooking.com sells the exact same Tazo blended iced tea in gallon size bags. So I make it at home for most of the time and treat myself a few times a week to the 'real' stuff :).

Thanks, Andrea, for letting us get to know you and Knitty Bitties!

Now, for the contest. What is Andrea giving one of our lucky readers?

Oh, just a little somethin' somethin' that I really wish I could have all to myself:

My Stylish Little Boy

Finally, a family picture. We don't get to take much of these anymore. You know, with all of us in a picture together.  A stranger was nice enough to ask us if we wanted a family picture at a wedding we attended this weekend.

I love Josiah's face!

Check out how stylish our little man was for the occasion:

Can you even handle the sweater vest? TOO. MUCH. Cuteness overload.

My 6 month old wears 9 month old clothes. He's huge, people!

Etsy Contest - Jill Lauren Knit Scarf

Just in time for fall: a wonderful knit cowl scarf to keep your neck nice & warm!

Honestly, I wanted this one all to myself, but I thought I should be a "giver" and bless one of my sweet readers with this amazing necessity for our cold front a comin'.

This lovely giveaway is being sponsored by Jill Lauren, an adorable Etsy shop that sells one of my favorite things in the whole world: scarves.

Jill Lauren doesn't just sell scarves. She sells hand knitted, original designs including cowls, fingerless gloves, hats and headbands.  Her products are made from extremely soft, luxurious yarn and all of her items are original, fashion-forward, and designed exclusively by her.

Jill's had her lovely handmade shop since November of 2008, and loves sharing her products with the Etsy community.

Jill's shop is just a hobby for now, as she currently teaches ESL at the University of North Dakota during the day. She spends a lot of her free time knitting and loves to shop for vintage items to include in her designs.

Something really interesting about Jill: She decided to get into knitting while serving in the Peace Corps in Russia ten years ago. It was her little, old neighbor lady that actually got her interested and taught her how to knit!

What's Jill giving away today?

A Snapdragon Dropstick Cowl of the winner's choice...

You want it, don'tcha? Mmmhmmm...
